As all of the entries touched our hearts at Red Horse Mountain Ranch, Ryan Hill, from Chardon, Ohio wrote to the contest on behalf of his mother and sister needing a vacation. Ryan says, "they live and breathe for other poeple." Ryan's father may have said it best during a difficult family time, "The best scale of a person is what his or her kids think about him/her." We at Red Horse Mountain Ranch want to congratulate Ryan and all of the entries for the 2008 Mother's Day Contest. We especially want to let all the kids know how very proud their parents must be!
Kids wrote from across the country about how their mother inspires their life. Brianna Norris wrote, "when my Dad went to Iraq, she was there to cheer my brother and I up." We heard about Mom's across the country doing those little things, such as Savannah Larson's Mom who drives her to dance class four times a week. Children find these seemingly small acts so very important in their life. Savannah wrote, "she doesn't know I am doing this, I want it to be a surprise. Its hard to beleive she can take care of herself because she does so much for me all the time." Kids pick up the little details, like Leanne Daube who wrote, "When I play soccer and I had a game she would always be there first...My mom has spent the past 17 years always being there for me." Whitney Warsh, in an eloquently written essay said, "Through her actions, she shows me that when you have a house, a family, and children, you can't be selfish. You can't pretend the world revolves around you as she always says. When you have a family to care for, you're going to have to give up some things you want for your family needs."
Ryan Hill's sister and mother have won an a week vacation at Red Horse Mountain Ranch, and we're looking forward to next year's contest. All of the letters an drawings will be sent back to the mothers on Mother's Day. We want to thank all of the kids who sent in entries, and the adults and mentors who helped the children. We also want to wish all the mothers a happy Mother's Day this year! We want all to know how very important Mothers and their contributions can be. As Hunter Whipple, in 3rd Grade said, "I would not trade her for a truck full of chocolate, even Reese's peanut butter cups and that's my favorite"! Congratulations to Ryan and all of you for a being a part of celebrating our mothers!
